CONWAY, Ark. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its superlative awards Tuesday. Three Bears earned Performer of the Year honors following the indoor season.
Brenae Allen was named ASUN Indoor Track Performer of the Year. Allen earned the honors after a season where she broke the 60-meter school and meet record at the ASUN Indoor Championships, claiming gold in both the 60-meter and 200-meter events to highlight her Championships MVP performance. The junior finished the season with the 65
th best time in the nation for the 60-meter dash at 7.33. Allen completed the indoor season with top marks in the conference in the 60-meter and 200-meter.
"Brenae is homegrown," Bears head coach,
Josey Weaver, said. "I've watched her develop into the outstanding competitor she is today. She's the type of athlete you want on your team in crunch time because you know she'll never shy away from competing. She has some lofty goals heading into the outdoor season, and I'm excited to watch her chase after them. She bleeds Purple.
Zoe Williams brings home ASUN Indoor Freshman of the Year honors. In her first season donning the Purple and Gray, Williams broke the 60-meter hurdles record with an 8.57 in the qualifying round at the Washburn Open and Multi meet, and she then broke it again with an 8.45 in the finals round, earning a third-place finish. Williams' confidence grew each week, leading to a silver medal finish at the ASUN Indoor Championships, running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.49. Williams finished the season with the second fastest time across the ASUN in the 60-meter hurdles.
"Zoe has lived up to the hype during her true freshman year," Weaver said of his freshman. "I remember her sitting in my office during her recruiting visit talking about how she could make an immediate impact. She's done that and then some. I truly believe we are just beginning to see a glimpse of what's to come for Zoe as a Bear."
On the men's side,
Jaden Schneeberger was named ASUN Indoor Field Performer of the Year for the second straight season. Schneeberger was a standout for the Bears all season long. The senior earned six top-five finishes in the shot put and weight throw events. Schneeberger earned two gold medals at the ASUN Indoor Championships, with a school record-breaking mark of 18.31 meters (60-01) in the shot put and 19.74-meter (64-09.25) toss in weight throw. Throughout the season, Schneeberger earned two ASUN Field Performer of the Week honors on January 21
st and February 4
th, he also finished with top marks in the ASUN in shot put and weight throw events. Nationally, he finished the season ranked 52
nd both shot put and weight throw.
"Jaden has been a building block of what we envisioned this program becoming from day one," Weaver said of the senior. "I'm very excited to see his hard work and dedication rewarded. Jaden truly shines when the lights are the brightest."
The Bears will open the outdoor season on March 26 with the Raleigh Relays (N.C. State) and Alumni Bulldog Relays (Mississippi State).
