TOPEKA, Kan. – After the first day of events at the Washburn Open and Multi, the University of Central Arkansas track and field teams have broken two school records and earned 22 top ten finishes.
To start the day,
Sloan Jones set a new meet record in the 60m dash event of the men's heptathlon, placing first with a time of 6.87.
Alexander Anderson took third with a 7:14 and
Nathan Uptagrafft finished right behind at 7:18.
Uptagrafft claimed third in the long jump heptathlon event with a jump of 6.95m and earned a second-place finish in the shot put heptathlon event with a 12.60m mark. Jones also took third in the high jump event of the heptathlon with a 1.88m leap.
Jaden Schneeberger earned the top mark in the men's weight throw with a 19.56m throw.
Devyn Steingisser was right behind with a third-place finish after an 18.38m mark. Trevor Green used a 17.72m throw to claim sixth place, while
Zahir Mcphail earned ninth place coming in at 17.04m.
Jane Musengwa continues to show out for the Bears, breaking the UCA indoor record for the women's shot put, marking at 14.08m.
Serena Degollado claimed fourth-place, measuring at 13.21m.
Madeline Hill shattered a nearly 12-year-old UCA indoor record in the women's 5000m run by over 11 seconds, coming in at 16:53.21.
Kayleigh Wagnon came in seventh-place with a time of 17:15.48.
In the women's 4000m distance medley, the Bears team consisting of Hill, Wagnon,
Arizona Blankenship, and
Liz Browning earned a sixth-place finish, coming in at 12:20.37.
UCA will send four Bears in
Brenae Allen,
Troynelle Miller, Raegan Allen, and
Danyelle Poole to the semifinal round of the women's 60m dash on Saturday. On the men's side,
Jeremiah Boudreaux and
Gabriel Torres move onto the semifinal round of the 60m dash.
Boudreaux also claimed a sixth-place finish in the men's 200m dash event with a time of 21.43.
Day two of the meet will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the 60m hurdles portion of the men's heptathlon event. Fans can follow along with
