CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas track and field teams claimed two weekly awards after the first week of indoor competition, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced Wednesday. Senior
Jaden Schneeberger earned Men's Field Performer of the Week honors, while
Jane Musengwa took the Women's Freshman of the Week award after Friday's Arkansas Invitational.
Bears head coach,
Josey Weaver was not surprised that these two athletes received conference honors this week.
"I'm not surprised that Jaden and Jane are being recognized this week for their performances at the Arkansas Invitational," Weaver said. "They are two individuals who work tirelessly at their craft."
Schneeberger started his season strong in Fayetteville with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a personal record mark of 20.57 meters, and a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a 16.26-meter throw. The senior delivered the Bear's first top-three finish of the season, and one of just two in the meet.
"Jaden is accustomed to winning these awards," Weaver said of his senior. "He has wholeheartedly embraced what it means to be a Bear and consistently lives up to both our expectations and his own."
Musengwa donned the Purple and Gray for the first time in the meet, setting the expectations high for herself by setting new personal records in both her events. The Freshman of the Week honoree claimed a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.53 meters and brought home an 11
th place finish in the weight throw with a 15.02-meter mark.
"Jane is a newcomer — what I like to call a 'silent killer,'" Weaver described Musengwa. "She's one of the sweetest, nicest individuals you'll ever meet, but once she steps into the circle, she's incredibly competitive and fiery. There's much more to come for her and her career as a Bear."
The Bears will be back on the track on January 30
th in Topeka, Kansas for the Washburn Open and Multi.
