CONWAY, Ark. – It was a beautiful day for cross country Saturday as the Central Arkansas teams swept the day taking home first-place finishes on both the men's and women's sides.
Madeline Hill claimed the top individual spot in the women's race with a time of 16:34.68, the only competitor to finish under 17 minutes.
"[Hill] has been our leader for a long time, and as she goes, I think we'll go this year," head coach
Josey Weaver said.
The women's team claimed the rest of the top five finishes with freshmen
Lydia Butler and
Arizona Blankenship placing second and third, while sophomore
Abby Machesky and senior
Sequoya Prentice coming in fourth and fifth. Overall, the women totaled just 15 points in the first-place finish.
On the men's side, the Bears took the top spot with official scoring placements of first (
Jack Dingman), second (
Trae Baker), fourth (
Mason Bickle), sixth (
Logan Dingman) and seventh (
Samuel Morales). The men finished with an overall score of 20.
"The number one goal was to come in and win the home meet, for the men and women to take care of that on both sides we were really happy," Weaver said. "We've looked really good for the past two weeks, so it was good to finally get into a race atmosphere," Weaver added.
Looking ahead, the Bears will be back on the trail on September 26 when the teams compete in the Gans Creek Classic.
