BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2020 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Zachary Jewell and
Ajah Criner recorded the best marks in UCA history in the 200m prelims.

Criner's time of 23.91 broke her own school record in the 200m and was the best mark in the prelims.
Tyler Rose came in 23rd with an effort of 25.58.
Z'Kiah Kuykendall posted the 28th-best run with a 25.84.

Jewell added the third-best prelims mark in the 200m with a 21.11.
Johnson Adegbite came in 20th with a 22.04.
Bruce White added a run of 22.21 and finished in 23rd.
Logan Murray notched a run of 22.41 and placed 28th.
Johnathan Blair came in 29th with an effort of 22.44.

Sierra Temple led UCA in the 60m prelims with a run of 7.51 and had the third-best run. Criner finished right behind in fourth with a time of 7.52.
Z'Kiah Kuykendall finished with a 7.78 in 13th.

Jewell posted the fourth-best time in the 60m prelims with a 6.87. Murray notched a time of 7.07 and had the 24th-best mark. Adegbite tied for 25th place with a mark of 7.08.
Johnathan Blair was 29th with an effort of 7.17.

Jordan Brock recorded the third-best run in the 800m prelims with a time of 2:19.64.

Jesse Applewhite clocked the fourth-best time in the 800m prelims with an effort of 1:53.41.
Alex Hanson had a sixth-place run of 1:55.01.
Ryan Yarde finished with a 12th-place mark of 1:56.08. With a run of 1:56.19,
Niklas Iking placed 13th.

In the mile prelims,
Tamara Reeves led the Bears with a run of 5:09.58 and placed fourth.
Erin Woodward posted a seventh-place mark of 5:10.57.

Jared Hamilton led the men in the mile prelims with a sixth-place effort of 4:18.54.
Hunter Henderson added a mark of 4:19.93 and placed 10th.
James Kees came in 14th with a run of 4:22.57.
Simon Schneider placed 16th with a time of 4:24.48.

Rose clocked the seventh-best time in the 400m prelims with an effort of 57.19.

Joshua Armstead came in 17th in the 400m prelims with a time of 49.37.
Luis Colon finished in 27th with a run of 51.09. White posted a 29th-place mark of 52.42.
Charles Christian ran a 53.71 and came in 30th.

Ayanna Harris came in seventh in the 60m hurdle prelims with a run of 8.84.
Aysha Anderson posted the ninth-best time with an effort of 8.89.
La Laylah Pleasant placed 13th with a time of 8.99.
Kayla Scott finished with a 21st-place mark of 9.17.

Jordan Atkins produced the fifth-best run in the 60m hurdle prelims with an effort of 8.11.
Timon Dresselhaus came in 17th with a mark of 8.58.

Gracie Hyde placed eighth in the women's 5,000m with an effort of 17:33.47.
Max Nores placed 11th in the men's 5,000m with a personal-best run of 14:56.63.

The squad of
Bekah Bostian, Anderson,
Julia Clark, and
Casey Gore finished with a combined time of 12:43.39 and placed eighth in the distance medley relay. On the men's side, Henderson, Yarde, Hamilton, and Hanson produced a time of 10:15.19 and placed fifth.

Jennifer Peake finished in 14th in the women's pentathlon with a combined score of 3,106. She placed 15th in the 60m, finished the high jump in 10th, placed fourth in the shot put, placed 13th in the long jump, and 16th in the 800m.

With four events completed in the men's heptathlon, Dresselhaus sits in eighth with a score of 2,813.
Zac Bitton is currently in ninth place with a tally of 2,801.
Luke Anthony has 2,463 points and is in 16th. Dresselhaus placed second in the 60m hurdles, while Bitton and Anthony came in sixth and 16th, respectively. Bitton led UCA with an eighth-place finish in the long jump. Dresselhaus came in 11th, while Anthony placed 17th. Dresselhaus finished the shot put in fourth. Bitton recorded a sixth-place finish, while Anthony placed 12th. Bitton led the Bears in the high jump with an 11th-place finish. Dresselhaus finished right behind in 12th, while Anthony came in 14th.

Action resumes on Monday, March 2, with the heptathlon 60m hurdles at 9 a.m. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put, while running events begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 60m hurdle finals.
