RECORDS FALL FOR UCA TRACK TEAMS AT SLC INDOOR

MEN 7TH, WOMEN 13TH AT CHAMPIONSHIPS

Jasmine Campbell broke her own UCA record in the triple jump

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. _ The University of Central Arkansas men's track and field team finished seventh on Tuesday at the 2015 Southland Conference Indoor Championship at the Crossplex Arena.

    The men's team finished with 58 points, setting seven new school records in the process. UCA's women's squad finished 13th with 11 total points, breaking the school mark in the triple jump and the 4x400 relay.

        Senior Chance Tanner of Waldon broke the record with fourth-place finish and a 47.36 time in the 400 meters, topping Sage Raphael's record of 48.23. Tanner also broke his own 200 meter record in the preliminaries with a time of 21.93. Freshman Josh Quiroga of Uvalde, Texas, set a new mark in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.92 in Monday's premilinaries, then ran 1:53.14 in the final to finish seventh. He broke Connor Ryan's two-week-old mark of 1:54.40 .

    Senior Jonathan Burgess of Bridgemon Downs, Australia, set a record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:49.01, topping Edward Limo's record set in 2012, good for fifth place. Burgess also finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:32.47), while Julien Jeandree was sixth (8:35.24). Freshman Eric Moore of Rialto, Calif., tied for first but was awarded second place on misses. His height of 7-1 broke his own record of 7-0.5 set in December. 

    Another freshman, Daniel Spickes of Rogers, broke the pole vault record with his third-place vault of 16-07.25. He also had the previous mark of 16-03.25 set on Feb. 7. UCA's 4x400 relay team of Trevon Boyd, Kelton Ray, Jeremiah Watson and Tanner finished second and set a new mark with a time of 3:12.25.

    UCA's distance medley relay team of Markus Schweikert, Boyd, Brant Cook and Julien Jeandree finished fifth in 10:16.00, the third-best time in school history. Cook's fifth-place finish in the mile was the third-best time in school history (4:14.03). Connor Ryan was also sixth in the mile (4:14.35) to earn three points.

    Junior Anthony Farris- King finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 23-08, while  junior Jahleel Lilly was sixth in the triple jump at 47-11.25.

    On the women's side, junior Jasmine Campbell from Beaver Falls, Pa., broke her own school record set early this season in the triple jump. Her leap of 38-03.25 was good for fifth place for UCA. Sophomore Samantha Gibson from Pittsburgh, Pa., put up the second-best total in school history in the indoor pentathlon with 3,399 points. Her best events were second place in the high jump (5-03.25) and third place in the 800 meters (2:21.65).

    Junior Alex Dorch of Rogers finished sixth in the long jump competition with a jump of 18-05, the third-best jump in UCA history. The 4x400 relay team of Jean Black, Khadijah Smith, Jasmine Richard and Gibson set a school record with a time of 3:54.08, shattering the old mark of 3:57.69.
