CONWAY, Ark. _ UTSA’s Michael Rockett hit a pair of home runs Sunday as the Roadrunners beat the University of Central Arkansas Bears 10-2 to avoid the sweep at Bear Stadium.
Rockett, a junior center fielder, had a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning, then added another solo shot in the ninth to give the Roadrunners (19-25, 8-16) their final run.
UCA used five pitchers Saturday, and all but one allowed at least one run. Starter Ryan Angus got the loss, allowing 5 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. The Bears still won the series with victories Friday and Saturday. UCA has won all four home Southland Conference series this season.
The Bears led 1-0 in the second when Garrett Brown’s sacrifice fly scored Blake Roberts after a double. The Roadrunners tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth but UCA answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on Brown’s first career home run.
It was all UTSA after that as the Roadrunners scored runs in four consecutive innings to atake a 9-2 lead after seven innings.
Brown was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI, while senior catcher Travis Snider went 3 for 4 with a double for the Bears. UTSA’s Ryan Dalton went 4 for 5, while R.J. Peruki was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. The Roadrunners finished with 15 hits after getting only 11 combined in the first two games of the series.
UCA (18-22, 12-12) hosts Northwestern State next weekend in SLC play. The games have been rescheduled to 7 p.m. Saturday and a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Sunday.
