CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (14-13, 4-4) secured a decisive 8-0 victory over Austin Peay (13-14, 4-4) on Saturday at Bear Stadium. The series is now tied 1-1, Game 3 will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Central Arkansas's pitching staff delivered a dominant performance, allowing only two hits and striking out 14 batters in the shutout.
The scoring started for the Bears in the third inning. In that frame,
Zane Denton reached on a throwing error and later scored, along with
Parker Gwyn, on a double by
Nate Negre.
Keon Moseni scored on a wild pitch. The inning ended with the home team leading 3-0.
In the fourth inning,
Jagger Schattle was hit by a pitch, later advancing to score on
Zane Denton's single.
Jayden Sloan and Denton scored on a fielding error, extending Central Arkansas's lead to 6-0.
Zeb Allen tripled in the fifth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Sam Reynolds, bringing the score to 7-0.
The seventh inning saw Allen hit by a pitch, advance to third on a series of plays, and score on a bases-loaded walk by Sloan, concluding the scoring at 8-0.
Central Arkansas' pitching was dominant against Austin Peay, led by
Denver Hamilton's exceptional performance on the mound. Hamilton pitched 7 innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 12 batters while walking just 1. He threw a total of 102 pitches, with 74 strikes, and did not allow a run.
Hunter Alexander provided solid relief, pitching 2 innings without surrendering a hit or a run, and striking out 2 batters.
