CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team will look to rebound from a 3-1 loss to Northwestern State on Wednesday as they square off with UT Arlington Saturday at the Prince Center.
The Sugar Bears bring a 9-9 overall record into the match, including a 4-2 overall mark in Southland play. UCA currently sits atop the East division, half a game ahead of Lamar.
UT Arlington is coming off a 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 19-25) loss to Texas State. The Mavs are 7-12 overall in 2011 and sport a 3-2 conference record.
The Lady Mavericks will enter the match led by Tara Frantz, whose 3.41 kills/set is third best in the Southland, and Amanda Aguilera, who is fifth in the same category with 3.10.
UTA, who holds their opponents to a hitting percentage of .216, is led by senior libero Alicia Shaffer. Shaffer currently ranks second in the league, averaging 5.43 digs/game.
UCA will bring the leagues top service attack into the match as they average 1.78 aces per set. Jessica Nagy currently averages 0.53 aces/set this season, the second highest mark in the Southland. In addition to Nagy, the Sugar Bear attack is led by Taylor Hammonds (2.23 k/s, .259 pct.) and Lindsey Barron (2.40 k/s, .212 pct.). Freshman Scout Brooks returned from injury this week and provided a spark off the bench Wednesday night, hitting .318 and tallying nine kills.
The Sugar Bears are 3-3 all-time against UT Arlington. In their last meeting, UCA defeated the Mavericks in the Southland Conference Tournament in Huntsville, Texas 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-18).
