CARROLLTON, Ga. — The Central Arkansas volleyball team (2-11, 2-1) defeated West Georgia (4-12, 0-3) 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18) on Thursday to claim its second straight-win.
Kennady Martindale matched her career high in kills with 16, while
McKinzee Haas did the same with 13.
After an early 2-0 start turned into an 11-5 deficit, Central Arkansas spent much of the first set digging out of their hole. The Sugar Bears worked back within two at 14-12, and later got within one twice at 16-15 and 18-17, with kills from Martindale,
Karlyn Frazier, Haas and
Ella Chaney helping the response. West Georgia would go on to win the set 25-20.
Central Arkansas broke a 2-2 tie with six straight points, including five on
Tatelyn Brandsma's serve, to build an 8-2 lead in the second set. UWG later got within 21-20, but the Sugar Bears answered by winning the final four points, with Haas involved in two blocks and Martindale adding a kill. Central Arkansas finished off the set 25-20.
An 11-0 run marked the third set for the Sugar Bears, putting the team ahead 20-10.
Olivia Kremer served 10 points of that 11-0 run, including two aces in that stretch. Chaney,
Nicole Sargent and Haas added kills during the surge, and Central Arkansas finished the set 25-19 on a West Georgia service error.
In the fourth set, Central Arkansas stretched a 16-12 lead to 20-12 during
Trinity Hamilton's serve, getting kills from Chaney and
Greyson Button before Hamilton delivered back-to-back aces. The Wolves closed in late, putting the score at 24-18 but Central Arkansas finished the set at 25-18 on a Chaney kill from Brandsma.
