FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Central Arkansas track and field team competed in the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday in Fayetteville. The Bears earned four top five placements, including a gold medal and a new school record.
Kayli Myers started the day off for the Bears with a 3
rd place finish in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 18:38.45.
Next, the 4x100 relay team of
Troynelle Miller,
Raghan Allen,
Baleigh Cashion and
Brenae Allen brought home a 1
stplace finish with a time of 44.77.
Zoe Williams continued to impress, breaking her own school record yet again in the 100-meter hurdles. Williams' time of 13.50 broke her previous record by 0.08 seconds, and earned a 2
nd place finish.
Symone Quiles broke the second school record for Central Arkansas on the day. Quiles' time of 1:01.07 took down a record that had stood since 2019, and claimed a 7
th place finish.
In the women's 200-meter,
Brenae Allen finished 4
th, crossing the finish line in 23.66.
On the men's side,
Byron Holt earned a 6
th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, running a 14.02, and
Xavier Simpkins came in 9
th with a time of 14.24.
William Wyatt Hill crossed the finish line in 9:58.98 to take an 8
th place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
In the 800-meter run,
Trae Baker finished 21
st with a personal best time of 1:51.94.
Bears head coach,
Josey Weaver said he was happy with his team's performance today.
"I'm really proud of our group for how we handled another tune-up meet as we prepare for the conference championship. I'm very pleased with how we competed and the direction we're heading into May," Weaver said.
"We had several outstanding performances, including two new school records—set by
Symone Quiles in the 400m hurdles and
Zoe Williams in the 100m hurdles. We're leaving this meet with new NCAA First Round qualifiers and growing momentum as we continue our pursuit of another championship. Our team will gear up one final time at the Music City Outdoor Meet in Nashville before we turn our full attention to the postseason. We're looking forward to what's ahead."
Next up, Central Arkansas will head to Nashville, Tenn. for the Music City Invitational on May 1
st for the squad's final tune-up prior to the ASUN Championships.
