FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Bears traveled to Fayetteville on Saturday to compete in the Arkansas Spring Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas. The Bears competed well, earning several top-five finishes throughout the meet.
Lydia Butler took the top mark for Central Arkansas on the day, earning the 1
st place finish in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:42.13.
In the women's shot put,
Joy Nance took a 2
nd place finish, marking at 13.75 meters (45-01.5).
Jane Musengwa claimed 4
th place, using a 13.04-meter (42-09.5) toss.
Serena Degollado finished 6
th with a 12.65-meter (41-06) throw, and
Eniyah Birdow placed 9
th with a 12.17-meter (39-11.25) mark.
Musengwa and Degollado also earned top-10 finishes in the women's discus. Musengwa placed 7
th, marking at 42.21 meters (138-06) and Degollado took 9
th with a 39.46-meter (129-05) throw.
Abby Machesky claimed 3
rd in the women's 800-meter event, running a 2:14.06.
Brenae Allen also claimed 5
th in the women's 200-meter with a time of 23.68. Allen also took 6
th in the 100-meter, finishing in 11.47.
Troynelle Miller finished 10
th in the 200-meter with a time of 11.62.
Zoe Williams tied her Central Arkansas school record as the freshman ran a 13.58 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, placing 8th.
Keirstin Moore finshed 8
th in the women's long jump with a 5.61-meter (18-05) leap, and
Davin James took 7
th in the women's high jump, clearing 1.65 meters (5-05).
In the women's javelin throw,
Sadie Hamby marked at 37.50 meters (123-00) to finish in 10
th place.
On the men's side,
Byron Holt took 2
nd in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.03, and
Xavier Simpkins finished 5
thwith a time of 14.26.
In the men's 800-meter run,
Ky Bickford ran a 1:51.99 to earn a 2
nd place finish.
Jeff King also claimed 2
nd in the men's javelin throw with a 62.53-meter (205-02) throw.
Jaden Schneeberger finshed in 2
nd place in the men's shot put with a throw of 17.42 meters (57-02).
Eli Jones took 6
th, marking at 15.72 meters (51-07),
Michael Savariau came in 8
th with a throw of 14.55 meters (47-09),
Devyn Steingisser finished 9
th with a 13.85-meter (45-05.25) toss and
Zahir Mcphail came in 10
th with a mark of 13.71 meters (44-11.75).
Jones and Savariau each earned another top-10 finish in the discus, along with
Nathan Uptagrafft. Jones used a 49.51-meter (162-05) toss to take 5
th place, Savariau threw a 47.71-meter (156-06) to finish 9
th and Uptagrafft took 10
th with a 45.86-meter (150-05) throw.
In the men's long jump,
Maverick Walker finished 4
th with a 7.41-meter (24-03.75) jump, while
Brayden Burris leaped 7.19 meters (23-07.25) to a 9
th place finish.
Jack Dingman ran in the invitational section of the men's 1500-meter, placing 5
th with a time of 3:50.14.
Keaton Hansard finished 6
th in the men's 400-meters with a time of 46.81.
In the men's pole vault,
Cole Hungate cleared 4.75 meters (15-07) to take a 6
th place finish.
Bears head coach,
Josey Weaver said the meet was an important step forward as the squads inch toward the ASUN meet.
"We took a step forward this weekend. Our full team is back, competing with purpose. Now it's about refining, improving, and pushing the standard as postseason approaches," Weaver said. "We're not there yet—and that's exactly the point."
Next up for the Bears will be the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16
th and the Little Rock Invitaional on April 17
