CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas men's soccer finally wraps up its six-game road stretch to start the season on Wednesday, playing the sixth and final match at Charlotte. Kickoff against the 49ers is set for 6 p.m. CT.
The Bears (0-4-1) continue to be put through the ringer of the non-conference schedule, gaining experience against some of the best teams in the country. After dropping a match to No. 12 High Point last time out, the Bears have played five top-100 RPI teams, including three in the top 40 and two in the top-30. Charlotte will be no different, ending last season at 29 in the NCAA's ranking system.
But there were some positives against the Panthers on Sunday, namely, the offense had some looks early in the match.
Omar Atia found some success driving up the sideline and crossing it in, putting several good looks into the box, but the chances came up empty. As the season wears on and the Bears stop playing ranked opponents and teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year, the crosses are sure to find better results.
Charlotte enters the week 2-2-1, having won its conference opener last Friday. The 49ers have played a couple of like opponents as the Bears, with the 49ers drawing 1-1 against High Point and defeating Tulsa 2-1.
Elias Arsvoll leads Charlotte offensively this season, scoring a team-high three goals and adding two assists. The sophomore has done it efficiently, too, scoring three times on only seven shots. His three goals came by way of a hat trick against Queens, scoring three of the team's six goals in the 6-0 win.
The matchup with the 49ers will be the first between the teams, although the Bears are no stranger to the American Athletic Conference's caliber of play, having faced teams like Tulsa, Memphis, and in years past, SMU.
Kickoff on Wednesday is set for 6 p.m. CT out in Charlotte. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
