BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Central Arkansas women's tennis team had a tough road match, falling 5-2 to Austin Peay at the Michael O. Buchanon Indoor Tennis Complex in ASUN Conference action.
The Bears (9-12, 2-5 ASUN) picked up a pair of singles wins, but the Governors (8-11, 4-3 ASUN) clinched the match with strong performances in both doubles and singles.
In doubles play, UCA's top pairing of
Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and
Konomi Miyakawa were narrowly leading 5-4 before their match went unfinished. However, Austin Peay claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Nonoka Kazma and
Harune Shigemasu dropped a 6-3 decision on court two, while
Ting-An Chen and
Nanami Fukushima fell by the same score on court three.
In singles action,
Konomi Miyakawa earned a hard-fought three-set win over Asia Fontana on court three, prevailing 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Ting-An Chen also came through for the Bears, securing a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 victory against Elena Thiel on court five.
Despite those highlights, UCA came up short as Austin Peay took four singles courts to secure the match. Vimuktananda battled in a competitive first set before falling 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 at the top spot. Kazma, Shigemasu, and
Seohyun Park also dropped their respective matches.
