RICHMOND, Ky. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis team earned a solid 5-2 road victory over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, showcasing a balanced performance in both singles and doubles play.
The Bears claimed the doubles point in commanding fashion, with victories on courts one and two.
Konomi Miyakawa and
Vichitraporn Vimuktananda secured a 6-3 win at the top spot over EKU's Anastasiia Cherniakova and Masha Fedenko. On court two,
Nanoka Kazama and
Harune Shigemasu dominated in a 6-1 win over Ceylin Ipek and Izem Elif Olcer. EKU salvaged a doubles win at No. 3, where Zhansaya Bakytzhan and Sasha Parkhomenko defeated
Ting-An Chen and
Nanami Fukushima, 6-3.
In singles action, UCA continued its strong play with four victories. Vimuktananda set the tone with a straight-sets win at the top line, downing Fedenko 6-1, 7-5. Kazama followed with a gritty three-set win on court two, outlasting Parkhomenko 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0. Shigemasu added another point for UCA at No. 4 with a steady 6-3, 6-4 performance, and
Seohyun Park rounded out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bakytzhan on court six.
EKU picked up singles wins at No. 3 and No. 5, where Ipek and Olcer claimed hard-fought matches against Miyakawa and Chen, respectively.
With the win, Central Arkansas improves to 11-12 on the season, picking up another key conference victory on the road.
