CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas tennis team faced a tough challenge on Tuesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to No. 32 Ole Miss at the UCA Tennis Complex. The Bears battled but were ultimately overmatched by the nationally ranked Rebels, who secured the victory with dominant performances in both singles and doubles play.
Ole Miss (12-9) set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. UCA's top duo of Nanoka Kazama and Seohyun Park fought hard but fell 6-2 to the Rebels' Ludmila Kareisova and Anaelle Leclercq. On court two, Konomi Miyakawa and Nanami Fukushima dropped a 6-1 decision to Andrea Nova and Brooklyn Olson, while the Rebels claimed the third doubles match by forfeit.
In singles competition, Ole Miss continued their strong play. Kazama battled at the No. 1 position but ultimately fell to Emily Welker 6-2, 6-0. Miyakawa pushed her opponent in the second set but came up short in a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Lucie Petruzelova at No. 2 singles. Park, competing at No. 3, fought hard in the first set before dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Alice Soulie.
Fukushima was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot by Olson, while Ole Miss secured two additional points due to UCA being unable to field players at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions.
With the loss, Central Arkansas moves to 8-11 on the season and will look to bounce back in their next matchup. The Bears return to action later this week, hosting Bellarmine.
