CONWAY, Ark. – With the season in the rearview mirror, the Atlantic Sun Conference has announced its postseason awards, starting off with the Academic All-ASUN Team. The Bears had three players selected to the list, honoring those that contribute both athletically and academically for their teams. The three Bears were
Brianna Lopez,
Megan Moudy and
Lea Duus Madsen.
The trio earned a spot on the conference's list after posting cumulative GPAs of at least a 3.50 and being a participant in at least 50 percent of the matches played this season. All three were key pieces for the Bears this season, highlighting their impact on and off the field.
"To have Lea, Megan, and Bri make the All-Academic Team is a testament to not only what they do on the field, but in the classroom as well. They are extremely hard workers in everything they do and are great ambassadors of our program. It's a great honor to have those three represented on the All-Academic Team." – Head coach
Derek Nichols
Lopez, a Health Promotions major, holds a 3.56 GPA as she wraps up her collegiate career. This season, she helped lead a midfield that tallied 25 goals and 26 assists on the year, and added three defensive shutouts and held seven other teams to a single score. The senior provided a dangerous threat on the outside, with the ability to put crosses into the box or take quality shots on goal.
Moudy, who just finished her junior season, has maintained a 4.0 throughout her college career, all while being a nursing student. In addition to the rigorous academic challenges, Moudy was among the best creators in the ASUN this season. Her five assists were tied for the most on the team, and ranked in the top-10 in the conference.
Duus Madsen holds a 3.87 GPA as she finishes a degree in Management. A key piece off the bench, the Dane gave the Bears two goals this season, scoring once against Little Rock and once against Bellarmine. Her score against the Knights proved to be the game-winning score in the 3-1 ASUN victory.
The group adds their names to a group of student-athletes that have claimed ASUN academic honors, making three-straight seasons that the Bears have had multiple honorees.
