CONWAY, Ark. – Despite giving North Alabama all they could handle, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team couldn't find away to pull off a win, ending its season Sunday afternoon.
The 1-0 loss moved the Bears to a final record of 6-9-2 overall and 3-5-2 in ASUN play. After a joyous occasion of celebrating the senior class, the fight was on. And for a lot of the first half, the sides were pretty even. North Alabama took a few more shots, but the Bear defense was able to handle it early on.
But the match changed in the 30
th minute, when the Lions were awarded a PK, which they hit to take the 1-0 lead. The Bears would look for an equalizer over the final 15 minutes of the half, but only got one more shot off before the break.
Early in the second half, the Bears had to weather a storm from the Lions, who came out firing and looking to add a second goal to the board. But
Anna Kathryn Harrell and the defense held strong, and eventually, the Bears were able to clear out and flip onto offense.
As time ticked on, the Bears got a few quality looks, starting with a
Brianna Lopez shot in the 67
th that challenged the UNA keeper.
Caroline Billings gave the Bears a couple of really good looks as the clock approached 80 minutes, but the junior forward couldn't find the net. The Bears got off two more shots in the final ten minutes, but just couldn't get that score to tie the match.
