TULSA, Okla. – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team wrapped up a competitive weekend in Oklahoma with a split decision, defeating Oral Roberts 4-3 on Saturday evening before falling to Tulsa 7-0 on Sunday morning.
Against Oral Roberts, the Bears rallied from losing the doubles point to secure four key singles victories and claim the narrow 4-3 win.
Vichitraporn Vimuktananda led the charge with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win over Arina Sorokina.
Harune Shigemasu and
Konomi Miyakawa delivered solid performances in straight sets, while
Ting-An Chen dominated her match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Abby Wise.
In doubles play, Vimuktananda and Miyakawa narrowly fell to Grammatikaki and Morini, 7-6, while ORU's Franzin/Wise and Goodell/Sorokina secured their respective matches to clinch the point for the Golden Eagles.
The Bears faced a tougher challenge on Sunday, as Tulsa swept the match 7-0. Despite a valiant effort, Central Arkansas struggled to overcome the Golden Hurricane's depth. Tulsa's nationally-ranked doubles team of Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings outmatched Vimuktananda/Miyakawa 6-2, setting the tone for the day.
In singles, Tulsa's lineup proved dominant, with straight-set victories across all courts. Vimuktananda battled atop the lineup but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-3 to Berlanga. The Golden Hurricane dropped just nine games in singles play, highlighting their control throughout the match.
