CONWAY, Ark. – The Bears are back at home this Thursday, as the Central Arkansas women's soccer team hosts Little Rock at 8 p.m. It marks the sixth iteration of the Governor's I-40 Showdown, with the Bears hosting the women's soccer portion of the rivalry.
Central Arkansas is looking for an answer offensively this season, struggling to find the goal early this season. Luckily, the Trojans also struggle offensively, having just one goal to their name in five matches. The Bears look to right the ship after falling at Missouri State over the weekend. Despite creating several good scoring opportunities, the shots just didn't fall for the Bears, and leaves the team searching for that final touch in the offensive third.
One small recompense for the Bears, is it seems as though it'll only be a matter of time before a shot finds the net; Central Arkansas puts its shots on goal at an .813 percent clip, one of the best in the entire nation. The struggle so far has been finding shots; the Bears are being outshot 59-16 through three games so far.
Little Rock (0-4-1) enters the week also looking for answers offensively, with just one goal scored so far this year. It came off the foot of Maria Schuller, who scored the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Grand Canyon late in August.
The Trojans face a similar problem as the Bears, finding shots and putting them in. So far this year, Little Rock has only taken 30 shots, just six per contest. They have put them on frame at a .467 clip, with 14 of their shots threatening to score. In goal, Peyton Urban has started all five matches, allowing just nine goals while making 24 saves. She has one shutout this season, blanking Arizona State in a 0-0 draw early in the year.
Thursday's match is the 11
th-straight season that the teams will face off. Last season's match saw the teams battle to a 0-0 draw, with Little Rock scoring only one goal in the last five meetings. The Bears are unbeaten in the last seven matchups, with four wins and three draws.
Thursday is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff, with this match following the men's soccer match against ORU. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. As always, attendance is free of charge.
