JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program dropped another tough match on the road, this time to the Ospreys of North Florida. UCA fell to 0-2 in the conference after being relatively competitive throughout both matches. Now the Bears stand at 7-8 on the season overall.
Nanoka Kazama and Harune Shigemasu started the Bears off on a great foot with a 6-3 win over North Florida's No. 2 doubles team. Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Sumomo Hamanaga followed it up with a nice 6-4 win over the UNF No. 1 doubles squad. The win marked the second straight conference match where the Bears won the doubles point, which is great momentum moving forward.
Hamanaga impressed once again this afternoon against the No. 3 spot for UNF in Nash, winning in two sets. Vimuktananda continued her stellar season and this time, she was in comeback mode, fighting back from 5-1 down in the third set to win 7-6.
UCA finally returns home next weekend to resume conference play against Eastern Kentucky on Friday, March 22nd at 10:00 a.m. and then against Queens on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 a.m. To keep up with the Bears this season, follow @UCATennis on Twitter/X.
