MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program split games in the Volunteer State on Sunday, dropping a match to Jacksonville State and winning against Lane College. After the weekend, UCA holds a 5-6 record, with one more weekend of non-conference play before the ASUN schedule begins on the road at Kennesaw State.
UCA got off to a great start against the Gamecocks, with the pair of Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Sumomo Hamanaga starting things off with a dominant 6-1 victory. Later, the pair of Nanoka Kazama and Harune Shigemasu secured a huge doubles point with a 6-3 win. In Singles play, the freshman Shigemasu got a huge singles victory, but unfortunately Jacksonville State was fairly dominant throughout the remainder of singles play, and the Gamecocks emerged victorious. JSU now has the upper hand in the all-time series, leading 2-1, winning two straight matches.
UCA finished off a big win to get back on track against Lane College. UCA won the first ever meeting against the Dragons, getting the Bears back to within a game of being back to .500 on the season.
UCA is slated to return to action on Saturday, March 9th in Nachitoches, Louisiana to face both Northwestern State and LSU-Shreveport. To stay updated with all things UCA tennis, follow UCA on Twitter/X at UCATennis.
