Men's Soccer Earns Postseason Honors

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team celebrates the success of the season with some ASUN awards, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced on Friday. The Bears earned five spots across the three teams, including three First Team All-ASUN members.

"It is very well deserved that Pietro, Devonte and Tajio made the All-Conference team as attacking players as they have worked very hard to make themselves more dangerous as goal threats and setting up teammates to help the team score goals," Head coach Frank Kohlenstein said. "Elijah was our ironman that played the most minutes, very consistent in his efforts to help the team improve our goals against, along with the outstanding efforts from our other defenders and the super play from our outstanding goalkeeper Javi! Charlie was a key player for our team and has an unbelievable ceiling as a top player not just as a freshman but comparing his abilities to every top player in the conference."

The first teamers were forward Pietro Fontana, midfielder Devonte Richards and defender Elijah Bishop. Fontana led the Bears and ASUN with seven goals, netting five in ASUN matches. His two game-winners were tied for tops in the conference, and he was the only player in the ASUN to record a hat trick this season, which he did to lock up a spot in the ASUN Championships for the Bears. He had two multi-goal games this season, including a brace against Memphis. Fontana put 18 of his 26 shots on goal, a 69 percent clip.

Richards had another great season for the Bears, scoring three goals and adding five assists, which led the team and ranked third in the ASUN. His 11 points ranked in the top-10 in the conference, and his eight points in ASUN matches (3 goals, 2 assists) were fourth in the league. He totaled 39 shots on the season, and put 18 of them on frame, both top-four numbers in the conference. He was also an end-to-end midfielder, helping the Bears defensively, helping Central Arkansas to four shutouts while holding five other opponents to one score.

Bishop played virtually every minute of every game this season, playing 90 minutes in 14-straight matches. He headlined a defense that allowed just 1.27 goals per match, using his size and athleticism to ward off attackers. He also contributed a goal and an assist this season, with his goal coming in ASUN play.

The Bears also had a Second Team forward in Tajio James. James tallied 11 points on the season, logging four goals and three assists. Two of his goals and two assists came during ASUN matches, and one of his assists came on a game-winner. His two ASUN assists were tied for the fourth-most in the league. His 11 points were good for seventh in the ASUN, and his six points in conference were good for sixth.

The Bears also had some help from some youngsters this season, and the league rewarded the play of Charles Brunet. The Canadian midfielder started all 14 matches he appeared in for the Bears, logging 1,035 minutes. He scored one goal and had two assists, including a goal against top-25 Wake Forest early in the season.
