CONWAY, Ark. - After dominating in both the classroom and the pitch, two Central Arkansas women's soccer players were recognized by the ASUN for their achievements. Seniors Kelly Van Gundy and Kajsa Pruner were both named Academic All-ASUN, with Van Gundy also being named the Scholar Athlete of the Year by the league's voters.
Â
Van Gundy, a two-time honoree on the ASUN's All-Academic Team, continued to excel in the classroom as she closes her college soccer career. The Nursing major continues to carry a 3.86 cumulative GPA, showing great promise for the next step after soccer. That, combined with her career-high nine goals and league-high four ASUN game-winners, lifted her in the eyes of the committee to not only name her to the Academic All-ASUN team, but to also award her the Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.
Â
It marks the first Scholar Athlete of the Year award since joining the ASUN for the Bears, who have had four previous Academic All-ASUN members.
Â
Pruner earned her spot on the squad because of her ability to lock in between the goal posts and between the ears. A senior Engineering Physics major, Pruner holds a 3.85 cumulative GPA with plans to continue her education beyond a bachelor's degree. In goal, the Sweden native holds a 1.64 goals against average, making 59 saves in 15 matches this season. She is the keeper of record for eight of the Bears' nine wins this season, and is responsible for all three shutouts.
Â
The two are part of the ASUN's 12-player team, a list that saw eight first-time award winners.
