CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program started off its fall schedule with a great home invitational this past weekend at the Conway Tennis Center. The Bears hosted the likes of Memphis, Murray State, Harding, Arkansas Tech, and Oral Roberts.
Senior Sumomo Hamanaga and freshman Harune Shigemasu started things off for UCA on Friday with a 6/3 doubles win over the Murray State pair of Kreugel/Alexeyeva. Friday's first round of singles play singles play saw wins for Hamanaga, Fuka Nonoyama, and Konomi Miyakawa. Seohyun Park, Shigemasu, and Ting-An Chen all won singles matches in Friday's second round of singles play.
In Saturday's first round of doubles, Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Nonoyama took down Pschorr/Chikovsaia of Murray State 6-1. Chen and Miyakawa followed suit, defeating Butler and Dunn of Arkansas Tech 7-5. Hamanaga and Shigemasu finished off the first round of doubles for the Bears, defeating Harding's pair of Dodd and Stafford, 6-0. Vimuktananda, Park, Shigemasu, Miyakawa, and Chen all emerged victorious in singles play on Saturday. The pair of Vimuktananda and Nonoyama finished things out for the Bears in the second round of doubles, defeating Memphis' pair of Amendola and Pierce 6-2.
