CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program will have a rematch with the Lipscomb Bisons in Jacksonville, Florida in the first round of the ASUN Championships.
No. 8 seeded UCA, now 11-9 on the season and 4-4 in the ASUN, played perhaps its best tennis the entire year against Lipscomb this past weekend in a 6-1 win. The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a strong shopping in doubles play by Nanoka Kazama, Vichitraporn Vimuktananda, Nicole Ross, and Jaeun Lee. UCA also got a huge boost from comeback wins from Miyakawa and Hamanaga. The wins put Hamanaga at 9-8 on the year and Miyakawa at 8-12.
Vimuktananda cruised to another win, improving her record to 11-5 on the season. The freshman stands at 6-2 in conference matches and 9-3 in the No. 2 spot, becoming a reliable player for the Bears. Kazama used a great effort to clinch another victory on the season, improving her season record to 9-9 and 3-3 in ASUN play.
No. 9 seeded Lipscomb now stands at 9-11 with a 4-4 ASUN record after last weekend. UCA now has wins over the Bisons in both meeting the past two seasons, with a chance to double up this season and advance in postseason play. The victor of this matchup will play the No. 1 seeded North Florida Ospreys Sunday, April 16th at 11:00 a.m.
