Bears head to Nashville for a doubleheader with Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program will head up to the Music City for two matches with the Belmont Bruins.

The Bears (0-2, ASUN 0-0) look to get their first win of the spring season versus the Bruins (1-0, Missouri Valley 0-0). Central Arkansas opened the spring season with matches against Southeast Missouri State and Mizzou, dropping both outings. The Bruins, coached by Dane Vorster, are coming off a 7-0 victory over Lee university.

Central Arkansas is 3-1 all-time against Belmont, having swept the last meeting in January of 2021 with a 7-0 finish. Sophomore Sumomo Hamanaga, then playing at the No. 5 spot, claimed a three-set win against the Bruins after dropping the first set.

Hamanaga and freshman Nanoka Kazama took down SEMO's No. 1 doubles team last weekend, and look to set the pace for the Bears going forward. Two players to watch for the Bruins are Viktoria Kliimand and Meredith Roberts, who each handily won their singles matches against Lee University.

UCA opens the first match on Saturday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. with the second match starting at 3:00 p.m.
