CONWAY, Ark. – Finally getting an opportunity to play in front of Bear Nation after a three-game road trip, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team makes its home debut on Monday, playing Air Force on Labor Day. Monday's game will start at noon at Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex.
Despite an 0-2-1 record, the Bears have played some absolutely fierce competition to start the campaign, matching up with three teams that have recent histories of playing in the NCAA Tournament in Portland, No. 3 Washington and SMU.
Central Arkansas has gotten important contributions from its veterans, with
Bradyn Knutson leading the defense to just one first half goal scored against the Bears. On the other side, albeit his first season playing with the Bears, senior forward
Sebastian Andreassen has already proven that he'll be a dangerous target, putting up 10 shots through three games, including five shots on goal and a score for the Norwegian.
Head coach
Frank Kohlenstein's team continues to play tough opponents, as Air Force marks the fourth-straight opponent that ended last season with a top-100 RPI, as Central Arkansas battles through a brutal first half of the schedule.
Air Force travels to Conway with an 0-2-1 record, having played three ranked opponents to start the season. Like Central Arkansas, the Falcons open their season with a slew of high-ranked opponents, having already played No. 24 North Carolina, No. 15 Wake Forest and No. 25 Missouri State. Most recently, Air Force battled the Bears of Springfield to a 0-0 draw on Friday.
Leading the Falcons in scoring is junior forward Thaddaeus Dewing, who has two goals on the season. Dewing is one of three players on Air Force's squad with 50-plus appearances, with team captain London Aghedo and Tyler Johnson also crossing the half-century mark in matches played. Aghedo is the most experienced Falcon, leading all players on the roster with almost 4400 minutes played.
The only time the Bears and Falcons have faced off was in 2018 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Air Force took a 4-0 win over Central Arkansas, a game in which
Bradyn Knutson and
Rowan Laufer's older brothers competed.
Kickoff against the Falcons is set for 12 p.m. at Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex. The game will be streamed on
