BEARS HEAD TO FLORIDA FOR A DOUBLEHEADER WEEKEND WITH MAJOR IMPLICATIONS

CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas tennis program will have its hands full this weekend as their Florida will feature two squads in the top five of the ASUN standings.

The Bears will not get a chance to shy away from tough competition as they enter into the Sunshine State to battle Stetson (10-6, ASUN 4-1) tomorrow and North Florida (10-8, ASUN 4-1) Sunday.

These perennial powerhouse matchups will feature major tournament implications as the standings are currently jumbled with teams with only one loss. The Bears are a part of that fray, but with two duals against the other one lose squads, that massive conference tie will be over by the end of the weekend. The weekend will settle many disputes, but it will also allow a few teams to clinch their spot in the postseason, as the number to be part of the ASUN tournament seems to be five conference wins.

All of this starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow as the Bears take the court against the Hatters in Deland. Stetson is led by their ace Nadejda Maslova, who is currently 3-1 in conference play. Her match against the Bears' No. 1 Chunxi Xin will be one to watch as it should play a crucial role in deciding the victor. After UCA is done in Deland, they head back up north to battle against the Ospreys of North Florida in Jacksonville. The Bears will hope to play spoiler for the UNF as they celebrate their senior day against UCA. The player to watch for the Ospreys is Annabelle Davis, as she is currently the lone undefeated conference player on their squad. Davis splits her time between the No. 2 and No. 3 spot, so she could be coming for either Fuka Nonoyama or Sumomo Hamanaga. Whether she battles the reigning conference player of the week in Nonoyama or the ever-rising stock of Hamanaga, it should be a quality match to watch. This match will take place 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
