CONWAY, Ark. - Now that the Central Arkansas tennis program has experienced life on the road, it is time to flip the switch as they get to host two ASUN opponents for a change.
The Bears welcome Bellarmine Friday and Liberty Sunday as they begin another step in their ASUN era with the first-ever home conference bouts.
UCA's Tennis Courts will offer a new take on history as the ASUN takes over. This historic event of two home matches will start against the Knights of Bellarmine. The Knights enter the weekend 1-17 on the season, with their lone win coming in the nonconference schedule against Southern Indiana. To add to that record, Bellarmine is 0-4 in the conference and has two common opponents with the Bears. While UCA outscored Lipscomb and Jacksonville State 12-2, the Knights surrendered both matches while being outscored 8-5. So judging by the tale of the tape, the Bears should have a successful afternoon against this squad.
It will be different when UCA takes the court against the Lady Flames, as Liberty is a tough team to crack. LU is 14-5 overall with a highlighted win over Mizzou 4-3 and is 3-1 in the conference. The Bears are led by Romero, the squads No. 1, as she is currently undefeated in conference play. The Lady Flames ace will take on UCA's Fuka Nonoyama in a pivotal match Sunday. Both players have had success in the early goings and should be the match to watch during the weekend.
The Bellarmine matchup starts at noon Friday, and the Liberty dual begins at 11 a.m. Sunday as both are being held at the UCA Tennis Courts this weekend.
