Men's Soccer Heads to Kansas City to Take on Roos

CONWAY, Ark. – Closing out the final nonconference game on the schedule, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team heads to Kansas City, Mo., to take on Kansas City Tuesday evening. The Bears and Roos are set to kick off at 6 p.m. at Durwood Soccer Stadium in Kansas City.

Central Arkansas (6-4-3, 5-1-1 ASUN) heads into the week for its final road match of the regular season with a four-match unbeaten streak, most recently taking a 2-1 win over Liberty last Friday. Jonathan Randall and Sebastian Andreassen tallied goals in the match, building the 2-0 lead before 50 minutes had passed. Though the Flames were able to close the gap to one, Central Arkansas' defense held through to capture yet another ASUN victory.

Earlier this season, the Bears took on another Summit League opponent in Oral Roberts. Playing that match at home, Central Arkansas drew 2-2 to the Summit League leader, with goals from Mathias Bendiksen and Richy Lapointe-Guevara in a second-half comeback. The two Summit League opponents are just the second pair of nonconference opponents from the same league for the Bears, who also played SMU and Memphis, both out of the American Athletic Conference, earlier this season.

Though not in conference play for the next match, the Bears have already locked up the No. 2 seed for the ASUN Championship, earning a first-round bye and home field advantage for the first two rounds of the tournament. It marks back-to-back years that the Bears have accomplished this feat, coming in the first two years that the team has been in the league.

Similarly, the Roos (5-4-3, 3-1-2 Summit) are currently tied for second in their respective league, having dropped just one conference game, that coming to Oral Roberts. Last time out, Kansas City picked up a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The Roos' Christian Koffi scored the lone goal in the 34th minute, his team-leading fourth of the year. Koffi leads the team in points this year, with four goals and four assists totaling 12 points.

Kansas City has had 20 players start a match this season, with only three players starting each match in which they've played, and only two players starting all 12. Senior goalkeeper Cooper Clark and junior defender Kotaro Hirokawa have logged a combined 2,067 minutes on the pitch together, with Clark playing every minute for the Roos between the posts. With the regular season winding down, Clark holds a 1.58 goals-against average, making 50 saves and recording three shutouts.

Kickoff against the Roos is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the final nonconference match for both teams. Tuesday's bout will be streamed on Roos All-Access, with live stats available here.
