CONWAY, Ark. _  After a long and disappointing road trip last weekend, the University of Central Arkansas Bears return home Tuesday night for the first game of a nine-game homestand.

UCA will host the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 6 p.m. at Bear Stadium, with Conway Regional as the official game sponsor. The Bears will also have consecutive home Southland Conference series against Stephen F. Austin this weekend and Northwestern State next weekend. 

The Bears and Red Wolves will be meeting for the first time this season after their game scheduled for April 6 in Jonesboro was postponed due to covid-19 issues. A new date has not been announced for that game.

The Bears (10-20) were swept by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last weekend in Corpus Christi, including a 12-inning loss on Friday and a heartbreaking 2-1 setback on Saturday in which senior Mark Moyer went the distance, struck out nine and allowed just one earned run.

ASU (10-19, 5-7) are coming off a Sun Belt series where they lost two of three at home to UT Arlington. The Red Wolves have lost five of their past seven games, with one of those at No. 3 Mississippi State.

The Bears and Red Wolves will be meeting for the 42nd time, with ASU holding a 22-18-1 advantage in the series, which dates all the way back to 1917. However, UCA is 7-7 in games played in Conway. The Red Wolves swept the last season series played between the teams in 2019, winning 9-6 in Conway and 6-4 in Jonesboro. UCA's last win was a 14-5 victory in 2018 in Conway. 

UCA hopes to have two of its top hitters back and available after a covid-19 pause. Senior first baseman Coby Potvin (.338 average) and freshman designated hitter A.J. Mendolia (.273) missed all five games last week, including Tuesday's 4-2 win over Little Rock in the "Governor's I-40 Showdown."
