CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (20-18, 8-8) dominated Eastern Kentucky (10-28, 4-12) with a decisive 12-2 victory at Bear Stadium on Friday night.
Central Arkansas's offense was fueled by a 10-run first inning, and
Denver Hamilton allowed only seven hits over seven innings.
Central Arkansas opened the game with a commanding performance in the first inning, scoring 10 runs on six hits.
Zeb Allen led off with a single and later scored, followed by
Nate Negre being hit by a pitch.
Jagger Schattle then singled up the middle, bringing in Allen.
Parker Gwyn doubled, scoring Negre, and
Keaton Laidley reached on a fielding error, allowing Schattle to score. A hit-by-pitch to
Mark Ross brought in another run.
Zane Denton reached on a throwing error, scoring two more unearned runs. Allen's second single of the inning added another run, and Negre's sacrifice fly brought in Denton. Schattle capped the scoring with a two-run homer to right center. The Bears led 10-1 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Laidley doubled and scored on a single by Denton, extending the lead. Eastern Kentucky did not score in their half. The score was 11-1 through two innings.
The third inning saw Gwyn single and later score on a hit by
Jack Runsick. The Colonels remained scoreless in their half. The Bears led 12-1 after three innings.
Eastern Kentucky scored in the fifth inning with a double by Moreno and an RBI double by Alvarez. Central Arkansas remained scoreless in their half. The score was 12-2 through five innings.
No further runs were scored in the sixth and seventh innings, and the Bears secured a decisive 12-2 victory.
Denver Hamilton delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching a complete game for Central Arkansas. Hamilton allowed seven hits and two earned runs over 7 innings while striking out seven and walking none. He threw 107 pitches, with 74 of them being strikes, and recorded his sixth win of the season, now 6-0.
