Preview: Bears Start Second Half of ASUN Schedule at Home with EKU

Conway, Ark.- The Central Arkansas Bears (19-18, 7-8) and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (10-27, 4-11) will play a three-game ASUN series in Conway, Ark. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m., Saturday 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. The Bears and Colonels will play for the 22nd time when they meet on Friday. Overall, UCA has an 11-10 lead in the all-time series. Earlier this season these two teams played a three-game series in Kentucky. EKU won the series 2-1. Currently, the Bears are in 4th place in the ASUN Gold Division while EKU is in 6th place, the top four teams from each division will be invited to the ASUN Champion. This weekend marks the start of the second half of the ASUN schedule, the Bears will play each division opponent for the second time over the next five weeks.

Earlier this week the Bears got a big win at Summit League leader ORU, 5-3. The Bears threw two runners out at the plate in the game. Nate Negre went 4-5, hitting 2 home runs with 4 rbi. Six pitchers appeared in the game striking out nine Golden Eagles batters. Silas Cowgill got the win (3-0). Bears swept the two game season series with the Golden Eagles, also winning in Conway earlier this season. In ASUN games this season, the Bears are batting .260 with 131 hits and a .435 slg% and their opponents are batting .285 with 145 hits and a .472 slg%.

The Colonels are coming off of a midweek home win over Kentucky State, 12-2. The Colonels threw eight pitchers in the game giving up just two hits, two earned runs but walked eight batters. Including their win this week the Colonels have only won three times in their last seventeen games. In ASUN games this season, the Colonels are batting .268 with 138 hits and a .458 slg% and their opponents are batting .283 with 147 hits and a .495 slg%.

First pitch against EKU for Friday's game sponsored by Turbare Manufacturing is set for 6 p.m., Saturday's game is 4 p.m. and Sunday is 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and The Bear 91.3 or you can follow live stats online.
