CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas tennis program finished out the regular season on a high note as they bested Southern Arkansas 5-2.
The Bears made sure to get their last reps in as they hope to carry momentum into the Southland Conference Tournament after a quick route of the Muleriders.
Doubles:
UCA offered up a clean sweep as they finished out doubles play 3-0 in the dual. It was a different rotation this time around as sophomore
Mei Ishimura and junior
Yada Vasupongchai took over the No. 1 spot. This decision pushed everyone up one as the No. 2 was freshmen
Maja Gledic and Sumomo Hamanga. The No. 3 was a different duo as sophomore
Fuka Nonoyama, and freshman
Paulina Engback took the final spot.Â
This changeup proved effective as the No. 1 squad won their matchup 6-3. Following them, Gledic and Hamanga won a close one at 6-4, and finishing it out was a strong performance from the new duo as they won it 6-1.Â
Singles:
The singles side of things only proved even more beneficial as the Bears claimed four of the six matches. Starting off the four straight victories was the No. 1 of the day Nonoyama. Nonoyama finished off her opponent quickly as she won it in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Following her was Vasupongchai as she ventured into the No. 2 spot for only the second time all season. Vasupongchai did a similar feat as she finished it out 6-2, 6-4.Â
From that point, it was an even more different approach as Gledic stepped in the three-hole and Hamanaga moved into the No. 4 spot. Gledic followed the trend and amplified it as she took her claim 6-0, 6-2. Hamanaga then took it home for the Bears as she won hers 6-4, 6-2.Â
Up next, UCA will head to Beaumont, Texas, to compete in the SLC Tournament. The Bears will compete as the No. 3 seed starting at 10 a.m. on April 23 at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
