TENNIS READY FOR FIRST CONFERENCE ROAD TRIP

CONWAY, Ark.: The University of Central Arkansas continues their dive into conference play as they head on their first Southland road trip.

The Bears are primed to continue their success in conference play as they face Nicholls on Friday and New Orleans on Sunday.

In their first opportunity of spring conference action, UCA delivered as they dominated against Lamar 6-1. During this dual, everyone got in on a piece of the action, but no one dominated as much as freshman Maja Gledic. The Bears No. 5 singles player started to come into her own as she bested her opponent in a quick two-set match. Gledic is a player to watch as she has been hitting stride these past couple of weeks. Though her record doesn't show her transition, the matches that were not finished showcase her potential in the spring season. Against Arkansas State, she was on the verge of forcing a third set in her unfinished matchup, and against Missouri State, she was well on her way to a victory.

While Gledic looks to turn a corner, many of the other Bears continue to pace out their success. After last week's victory, sophomore Fuka Nonoyama has won three straight, and it was almost four as her match against Oklahoma State went unfinished. In virtually the same fashion, junior Yada Vasupongchai has three consecutive victories and nearly landed a fourth against the Cowgirls. There is a lot to be excited for as the Bears continue into the spring season, and they hope that excitement continues as they face Nicholls.

From the opposite side, the Colonel's have had a tough go at things this season. Overall, Nicholls is 2-5 with a 0-2 record in the conference as Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin bested them. While the team has struggled early into the season, their No. 6 player Morgan Forshag has found her groove. Forshag has won three of her last four in decisive fashion and should make a quality opponent for UCA's Sumomo Hamanaga

Once the Bears finish up in Thibodaux, La., they head just 60 miles Northeast to take on New Orleans. The Privateers have a limited number of experience this year as they did not play in the fall and have played one match while seven others got canceled or postponed. Once New Orleans takes the court against Northwestern State tomorrow, it will be their first hint of action since Jan. 28. In their lone match this year, the Privateers faced off against Tulane and lost 5-2. While action for New Orleans has been limited, they continue to draw their success from sophomore Ank Vullings. Vullings was the Privateers No. 1 last year and was 10-0. Against her, the Bears will throw out sophomore Chunxi Xin. This matchup will be a key one to watch. Xin has recently started showcasing her success at the No. 1 position. Xin has won two of her last three in both singles and doubles.

UCA will head down to face Nicholls tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Thibodaux. Following that, they will face New Orleans at 11 a.m. on Sunday in New Orleans.
