CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas tennis program gets the chance to make some waves again as they return home this weekend for a two-match set.
The Bears hope to rebound from their close loss to New Orleans last weekend as McNeese and Southeastern Louisiana come to town.Â
Thus far in conference play, UCA has been on the positive side and the negative sides of duals. However, they have showcased themselves as a legitimate threat in the Southland Conference. This threat comes from the fact that the hitters from UCA have been finding their groove recently. That fact especially shines through with freshman
Jaeun Lee. It is hard not to be impressed with Lee's spring season as she is currently 10-2, with her only losses coming to Tulsa and Lamar in extras. From a doubles standpoint, her and her partner freshman
Maja Gledic have been on a roll, winning their last three matches. These two women will be at the focal point of both matches as Gledic has also been killing the game as she has won two of her last three.
This homestand begins tomorrow as McNeese comes to town. The Cowgirls are fresh off a 5-2 loss to Lamar and hope to turn around their season starting tomorrow. McNeese has struggled mightily in the early portion of the schedule as they are 1-10 overall and 1-3 in the SLC. The Cowgirls look to their No. 4 hitter freshman Natalia Ballo to take control as she is the lone player with multiple wins on their team. Thus far this season, Ballo is 3-7 with multiple conference wins.
Looking ahead to Sunday, SELA is sitting on the same side of the coin as they are 3-7 with a 1-3 conference record. Similar to the Cowgirls, the Lady Lions are coming off a 5-2 loss to Lamar. However, they will have a chance to redeem themselves as they face Northwestern State Friday before heading to Conway. SELA is lead by their No. 1, sophomore Putri Insani. Insani is 5-3 this spring season with quality wins over Tulane and a pair of conference match victories.Â
The Bears begin the weekend at the UCA courts tomorrow with McNeese at 12:30 p.m. and then host SELA at a time yet to be decided on Saturday with a location yet to be announced.Â
