CONWAY, Ark. - The countdown is over, and now the Central Arkansas tennis program is ready for their chance to make a splash at the ITA Central Regional.
Iowa City is the place to make that stand as the Bears will battle the best in the Midwest, with 27 other programs competing at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.
This year's ITA Central Regional will be slightly different from last year's as a massive influx of teams will be participating. With only nine teams in the last go-around, it will be a different animal for UCA. However, it will be another chance to prove their worth, especially from junior
Fuka Nonoyama.
Nonoyama made the biggest stand last year as she claimed the Consolation Round Championship. After dropping the initial round to Mizzou's Ventura, Nonoyama went on a massive run to win four straight and claim the honor. However, she did not just accomplish these feats in the singles side of things as her and
Chunxi Xin produced major success in doubles. The pairing made it to the round of 16 and fell short as they barely lost to the Oklahoma State squad.
While these two proved their worth last year, it is up to the whole squad to make their mark and continue to improve. One athlete that is already making their mark this season is sophomore
Maja Gledic. Gledic has been producing the best results in the whole squad as she is 7-2 in singles this season. Her ability to continue to get wins in close fashion will be massive as they take on this tough bunch of foes.
All of the UCA athletes are ready for the challenge as they take on some of the best in a massive tournament format. The tournament will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. as it is expected to go through Sunday in an elimination-style bracket.
