FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Central Arkansas tennis program left the third day on a high note after claiming four matches against the University of Houston.
For the Bears, the third day proved the most successful as numerous competitors added their tally to the win column as UCA grabbed two singles and two doubles match victories.Â
After battling teams like Texas A&M, North Texas and TCU, the Bears got their opportunity to continue the Texas trend against Houston. UCA hit the Cougars hard from the get-go as they claimed the first two singles matches in the nonofficial duel. Leading the Bears' charge was sophomore
Fuka Nonoyama as she defeated Gabriela Giraldo in two sets, 6-3, 6-1. Nonoyama got the chance to jump over the hump as she had lost the two previous matches at the TCU Invite in the third set.Â
The No. 3 for UCA also got to get in on the fun as junior
Yada Vasupongchai claimed the Bear's second victory against the Cougars soon after. Vasupongchai hit the court against Houston's Stephanie Belovukovic and had a successful outing as she claimed the match in two sets. Vasupongchai easily won the first set 6-2 but had to prove herself in the back and forth battle in the second as she claimed it 7-5.Â
For the first time at the TCU Invite, the Bears were able to grab a doubles victory and shortly after made it two. While freshmen
Sumomo Hamanaga and
Jaeun Lee did not continue their singles success, their combined effort gave them their first doubles victory of the invitational. They defeated Gabriela Giraldo and Bianca Cortijo in a close matchup as the UCA duo claimed the match 6-4.Â
Alongside Nonoyama, freshman
Paulina Engback was also able to get on the board as they claimed their match 6-3. The sophomore/freshman pairing faced Houstons Belovukovic and Manasi Reddy of Houston. This was the deciding doubles match in the unofficial duel as the Bears took two of three against the Cougars.Â
UCA will face Houston once again tomorrow as the first serve for the TCU Invite's final day is set for 9 a.m.Â
