FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Central Arkansas tennis team returned to the courts for day two of the ITA Central Regional Championships hosted by Arkansas on Saturday.
Chunxi Xin and
Fuka Nonoyama reached the round of 16.
The duo of Xin and Nonoyama battled Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Lenka Stara from Oklahoma State in the round of 16. The match needed a tiebreak to decide the match and was won by the OSU tandem, 7-6 (2).
In the singles consolation round of 32,
Paulina Engback faced Isabel Pascual Montalvo from TCU. Pascual Montalvo won the tightly contested first set 7-5, before she knocked off Engback 6-0 in the second set.
Sumomo Hamanaga battled Mara Presot from Missouri State. After Presot won the opening set 6-2, Hamanaga responded and took the second set 7-5, to force a tiebreaker. Presot claimed the tiebreaker, 1-0 (8) and won the three-set match.
In the singles consolation round of 16, Nonoyama faced Tiffani Nash from Missouri State. Nonoyama breezed through the first set, 6-1, and followed with a 6-3 victory in the second set to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.
Maja Gledic squared off with Lucie Devier from North Texas. Devier knocked off Gledic 6-2 and 6-3.
Jaeun Lee dropped a two-set match against Pascual Montalvo 6-4 and 6-2.
In her singles consolation quarterfinals match, Nonoyama faced Claire Slaughter of Arkansas. Nonoyama won the matchup without losing a game, as she won 6-0 and 6-0.
In a bonus match, Xin won the first set 6-1, against Olga Bienzobas Fernandez from Missouri. Xin won the tightly-contested second set 7-5.
Nonoyama will face Pascual Montalvo in the in the singles consolation semifinals with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sunday.
