VOLLEYBALL WRAPS UP THE FALL SEASON WITH A TWO MATCH SET

CONWAY, Ark. - Through all of the cancellations and postponements, the University of Central Arkansas volleyball team is finally getting to close out the fall season with two matches against ULM on Friday and Sunday.

Before UCA (0-3) begins their adventure towards their 12-game spring volleyball season, some unfinished business is still left in the fall. With three games down, there are only two games against the Warhawks (1-10) standing in the Sugar Bears way from finishing the fall season on a high note.

The Sugar Bears had an interesting fall, and after eight postponements, it's time to wrap up the fall season. This fall for UCA has been experimental as the Sugar Bears have dabbled in various lineup changes. Different leaders have emerged from these changes, including junior Lexi Miller. Miller leads the team in kills through the first three games with 45 while averaging 3.46 kills per set. Miller stepped into the main outside hitter's role during the last matchup against Missouri State when the starters from the first two matchups did not travel with the squad. She replaced redshirt senior Amanda Beaton, who led the team in kills through the first two matches.

UCA will use a mix of players throughout this two-game set, but one evident thing is the Sugar Bears' ability to defend their side of the court. Between senior Emily Doss (29), sophomore Alexis Stumbough (39) and freshman Lexie Gregory (19), the trio holds over 50% of the dig totals for UCA this season. While at the same time, junior Ravin Rhodes (5) and Miller (4) hold down the fort when it comes to blocks in the middle.

From the opponent's side, the Warhawks have been more fortunate in playing games as they have already amassed 11 games played this season. However, it hasn't been as lucky when it comes to the final results as its record stands at 1-10. Their lone win came during the first game of the season, as they faced off against Southland Conference opponent Lamar and won the matchup in four sets.

This matchup will mark the first time since Sept. 9, 2016, that these two have stood across the net from each other. The last time did not bode well for the Sugar Bears as it lost the match in five sets. However, history favors UCA, as they own the all-time series 4-2.

UCA will close out the fall season with this two-game stint starting on Friday as the two teams will play at 6 p.m. in Monroe, Louisiana. After that, they will head to Conway for a 3 p.m. match in the Farris Center Sunday.

Quote from Head Coach John Newberry:

"With our fall season winding down this weekend, I want to say a big thanks to our admin for allowing us to make this happen. A big thanks to ULM head coach Charlie for playing us twice during their conference off week."

"UCA is healthy and ready for competition with someone else. It will be a quick turnaround with a Friday and Sunday game. It gives our team a chance to play, figure some things our and make adjustments before our game on Sunday. This also helps us gain experience and get us ready for our conference schedule. The doors open an before the game, we can't wait for the Farris Center to be at limited capacity."
