CONWAY – The Central Arkansas Bears concluded Fall home play this weekend as they competed against five other schools in the UCA 2
nd Fall Invitational at the Conway Tennis Center. The invitational setup was similar to the first one as there were three flights of doubles and five for singles.
The Bears took home top finishes for the third straight weekend as they had top-2 finishes in two flights of singles and doubles.
RESULTS FROM THE WEEKEND
For singles play:
- Flight Two – Freshman Maja Gledic continued to impress over the weekend as she won her flight for the third weekend in a row with three straight wins over opponents from Louisiana Tech. In those three matches, Gledic won all of them 2-0 and never let her opponents win more than four games in a set.
- Flight Three – Junior Yada Vasupongchai cruised through her first two matches before falling in the championship matchup against Vivian Lai of Southeast Missouri State 6-4, 6-3. Vasupongchai handled her first two opponents from LTU and SEMO in 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1 fashion to ultimately land the second-place finish.
For doubles play:
- Flight One -- The pairing of sophomore Fuka Nonoyama and Gledic proved deadly for the second weekend in a row as they defeated a pairing from Austin-Peay State 7-5 in the championship match after rolling through SEMO and Arkansas State.
- Flight Two -- The freshman-junior combo of Paulina Engback and Vasupongchai took two close matches in rounds one and two against APSU and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga before falling 6-4 in the final round to SEMO to finish second.
UP NEXT
The Bears will spend some days training before hitting the road to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the SMU Fall Invitational starting on October 4.
