LAWSON, JEWELL SET SCHOOL RECORDS AT PITTSBURG MEET


    PITTSBURG, Kan. _ University of Central Arkansas sophomore Zachary Jewell set the school record in the 60 meters during preliminaries at the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday, while senior Daniel Lawson broke his own mark in the 600-yard run.

    Jewell, from Cove, Ark., ran a 6.79 in the prelims and followed with a 6.84 in the finals, good for sixth place overall. The old mark of 6.83 was also held by Jewell and set during his freshman campaign. Lawson ran a 1:13.00, good for seventh place, breaking his own mark of 1:14.45 set a year ago.

    UCA's men finished with eight Top 10 performances at the meet. Senior Eric Moore finished third in the high jump with a leap of 1.99 meters (6-06.25). Freshman Logan Hall finished seventh with the same height. Sophomore Jared Hamilton finished sixth in the mile run in a time of 4:22.18, while sophomore Alex Hanson ran an 8:35.60 to finish seventh in the seeded 3,000 meters.

    Freshman Shamal Sullivan was 10th in the 800 meters in a time of 1:59.36. UCA's distance medley team of Jared Hamilton, Jeriah Johnson, Alex Hanson and Jaron Hamilton finished sixth in a time of 10:36.41.

    On the women's side, junior Hannah Noble finished ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.61 meters (5-03.25). UCA's distance medley relay team of freshman Charlotte Blair, senior Molly Sampson, freshman Jordan Brock and junior Taylor Dunn finished sixth in a time of 12:51.46.
