RALEIGH, N.C. – The Central Arkansas track and field teams wrapped up the final day of competition at the Raleigh Relays and Alumni Bulldog Relays on Saturday with athletes competing in seven events at the two meets.
In the Raleigh Relays,
Abby Machesky competed in the women's 800-meter, running a 2:13.17.
Four Central Arkansas athletes ran the men's 800-meter.
Ky Bickford finished in 1:51.93 to lead the Bear runners. Trey Baker,
Logan Dingman and
Jack Dingman finished just behind, crossing the line at 1:52.60, 1:53.60 and 1:55.59, respectively.
In the Alumni Bulldog Relays,
Jaden Schneeberger took down his own school record in the men's shot put with a 17.61-meter (57-09.25) mark, good for a 5
th place finish.
Eli Jones came in 14
th place with a 14.43-meter (47-04) toss,
Zahir Mcphail took 15
th, marking at 14.37 meters (47-01.75) and
Michael Savariau claimed a 16
th place finish with a throw of 14.33 meters (47-0.25).
Joy Nance led the Bears with a 14.00-meter (45-11.25) throw, good for a 6
th place finish in women's shot put.
Jane Musengwa finished 11
th with a 12.87-meter mark, and
Serena Degollado claimed a 14
th place finish after a throw of 12.54 meters (41-01.75).
In the women's javelin event,
Sadie Hamby finished 10
th with a throw of 36.86 meters (120-11) and
Malea Wiggins finished in 14
th place with a mark of 29.82 meters (97-10).
Jeff King took a 5
th place finish for the Bears in the men's javelin with a 63.47-meter (208-03) throw.
Maximillian Laur placed 16
th, coming in at 35.36 meters (116-00).
On the weekend, the Bears earned two podium finishes, both in the hammer throw with Schneeberger's 2
nd place throw and
Joia Perry's 3
rd place throw. Central Arkansas also broke two outdoor school records.
"It was great to get the outdoor season started with part of our distance and throws squad. It's always a positive to walk away with two new school records —
Jack Dingman in the 1500m and
Jaden Schneeberger breaking his own record in the shot put," Bears head coach,
Josey Weaver said.
Next up, the Bears will travel to Texas to compete in the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational next week.
"Our sprinters and jumpers will kick off their season next week at the Texas Relays and Texas State meets, which we're excited about," Weaver said, looking ahead at the schedule.
"There are a lot of lessons we can take from this first meet that will help us improve moving forward," Weaver said. "If we continue to learn and progress each week, I believe we'll be a very tough team by the time we reach the ASUN Championships."
