Troy, Alabama – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears closed out their appearance at the Troy Invitational on Monday, facing off with Louisiana Tech in doubles play and Murray State in singles action. Following the conclusion of play,
Xylia Chunan Xiang and
Hee-Jin Oh were named the champions of flights Two and Four, respectively, while Xiang and
Amiru Shimoguchi were named the champions of the second doubles flight.
Central Arkansas split a pair of doubles matches against the Lady Techsters, with Xiang and Shimoguchi improving to 3-0 on the weekend with a 6-2 win over Paulina Cota and Nadja Manjon and
Pornpawee Pramethong and
Marli Van Heerden dropping a 4-6 decision to Sonia Chen and Karla de la Luz.
In singles play, the Sugar Bears split their four matches with the Racers, as Oh moved to 3-0 in the tournament by defeating Aarja Chakraborty 6-2, 5-7, (10-7) and Shimoguchi improved to 2-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jeanne Masson. Xiang dropped her first match of the weekend, falling to Anasstasiya Sharapova 5-7, 7-5, (10-7), and Van Heerden lost Sara Loncaravic 4-6, 1-6.
The Sugar Bears return to the court next weekend, travelling to Columbia, Missouri for a pair of matches. Central Arkansas will take on Missouri at 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon, before squaring off with Southeast Missouri State at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning.
