Troy, Alabama – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears took a break from Southland Conference play on Monday, heading to Troy, Alabama to take on the Troy Trojans. For just the third time this season, the Sugar Bears found themselves on the wrong side of the result, dropping a narrow 4-3 decision.
Central Arkansas (12-3) found itself trailing after the doubles competition, as
Pornpawee Pramethong and
Amiru Shimoguchi dropped the no. 1 match 6-2 to Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky and
Hee-Jin Oh and
Marli Van Heerden fell in the no. 3 match 6-2 to Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina.
The Sugar Bears rebounded early in the singles portion of the match, when
Rada Manataweewat took the no. 6 match 6-0 6-4 from Luisa Ferrauti and Shimoguchi took the no. 4 match 6-3, 6-2 from Herlina. The Trojans evened the match at 2-2 when Hannah Seizer scored a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Oh in the no. 2 spot.
QiLi Ma gave UCA the lead again by taking down Karaky 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, but Ohto defeated Pramethong 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-1 at the no. 1 slot, and Alicia Rodriguez scored a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win over Van Heerden in the no. 5 spot to secure the win.
The Sugar Bears take to the court again tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM, meeting Alabama State in a neutral-site match-up at Troy.
