San Antonio, Texas – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears hit the road for the first of a four-match road trip on Saturday, heading to San Antonio, Texas to face off with The University of the Incarnate Word in Southland Conference play. The Sugar Bears were dominant on the day, sweeping the Cardinals 7-0 to improve to 12-1 on the season and 2-0 in SLC play.

Incarnate Word (3-10, 0-1 SLC) took an early lead in doubles play, as Matea Zemunik and Rachel Sadiq scored a 6-3 win over Pornpawee Pramethong and Amiru Shimoguchi in the no. 1 match. Central Arkansas (12-1, 2-0 SLC) would rally for the doubles point though, as Marli Van Heerden and Hee-Jin Oh took the no. 3 match 6-4 from Maria Batchinsky and Alejandra Tamayo before QiLi Ma and Rada Manataweewat improved to 8-2 on the year with a 7-5 win over Victoria Kareh and Sarah Savedra to clench the point.

The Sugar Bears continued the rout in singles play, dropping just one set in six matches. Van Heerden moved to 10-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Batchinsky at the no. 5 slot, while Ma bumped her record to 10-1 by defeating Kareh 6-1, 6-2 at the no.3 spot. The no. 6 match saw Manataweewat push her record to 8-3 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Tamayo, and in the no. 1 match, Pramethong improved to 5-7 by defeating Zemunik 7-5, 6-2. Shimoguchi dropped the first set of the no. 4 match against Savedra, but rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 win to push her season mark to 7-6, before Oh closed out the match at the no. 2 spot, improving to 5-5 with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win over Sadiq.

Central Arkansas steps out of SLC play tomorrow, taking on UT-San Antonio at 11:00 AM.
