Springfield, Missouri – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears kept their perfect start to the season alive on Saturday morning, picking up a 4-3 win over the Creighton Blue Jays in Springfield, Missouri.
Central Arkansas (8-0) took an early lead in the battle for the doubles point, as
QiLi Ma and
Rada Manataweewat moved to 6-0 on the year with a 6-0 win over Michaela Henne and Katherine Nelsen in the no. 2 match. The Blue Jays (3-5) would even the doubles competition when Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette defeated
Pornpawee Pramethong and
Marli Van Heerden 6-3 at the no. 1 spot, but
Hee-Jin Oh and
Amiru Shimoguchi secured the point for the Sugar Bears with a 6-4 win over Hylan Miller and Claire Embree at the no. 3 position. The win was the pair's second of the season.
In singles play, the Sugar Bears took care of business early securing victory by winning the first three singles tilts. Pramethong improved to 4-3 on the year with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ishimura in the no. 1 match, while
Xylia Chunan Xiang picked up her second-straight win since returning to the UCA line-up with a 6-0, 7-5 defeat of Nelsen at the no. 2 spot. Ma clinched the match in the no. 3 match, moving to 7-0 on the year with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Rosette in the no. 3 slot.
With the match already decided, Creighton rallied to make the score close, earning wins in each of the three remaining matches. Shimoguch dropped the no. 4 match 6-3, 7-5 to Henne, while Van Heerden fell in the no. 5 match to Miller by a score of 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. In the no. 6 slot, Manataweewat dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Embree.
Central Arkansas takes to the court twice tomorrow, facing off against Missouri State at 10:00 AM and Louisiana Tech at 5:00 PM.
