Conway – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to action on Saturday morning, hosting the Alcorn State Lady Braves at the UCA Tennis Courts. Central Arkansas made short work of Alcorn, cruising to a 5-0 victory.
Central Arkansas (12-6) swept all three doubles matches to grab an early advantage.
QiLi Ma and
Rada Manataweewat improved their record to 13-4 on the season, taking the no. 3 match 6-1 over Marlene Maier and Klavdija Bujoved, while
Xylia Chunan Xiang and
Amiru Shimoguchi paired for the first time this season and won the no. 1 match 6-0 over Ekaterina Potapova and Siohan Ryan-Bovey.
Nataly Yoo and
Krizia Buck completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win over Aida Kelic and Ivana Boberic in the no. 2 match.
In singles play, the Sugar Bears continued to roll, taking all four completed matches to complete the sweep. QiLi Ma improved to 12-6 on the season, taking down Ryan-Bovey 6-0, 6-0 in the no. 3 match, while
Marli Van Heerden improved to 9-8 overall with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bukovec in the no. 4 match. Buck rolled over Maier 6-0, 6-2 in the no. 6 match to move to 5-1 on the year, while Shimoguchi closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Boberic in the no. 2 match to improve to 15-3 on the year.
Central Arkansas closes out the home portion of its schedule with a return to Southland Conference play tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. The Sugar Bears will host Incarnate Word on Senior Day, when UCA will honor the career achievements of seniors Nataly Yoo and Krizia Buck.
