Conway – The Central Arkansas women's tennis returned to action on Sunday afternoon, playing host to the Warhawks of the University of Louisiana at Monroe at the UCA Tennis Courts. The Sugar Bears and Warhawks played each other incredibly close on the day, with ULM edging out UCA 4-3.
In doubles play, Central Arkansas (2-2) earned the point, thanks to wins in the no. 1 and no. 3 matches. The no. 1 match saw
Nataly Yoo and
Amiru Shimoguchi earn a 6-3 win over Pauline Van Herck and Patricia Villar, while
QiLi Ma and
Rada Manataweewat took the no. 3 match 6-3 over Ioana Popescu and Petra Horakova. ULM's Tiffany Mylonas and Luana Stanciu defeated
Xylia Chunan Xiang and
Marli Van Heerden 6-3 in the no. 2 match.
Singles play featured a number of hard-fought matches, as three of the six matches went to a decisive third set. Yoo took down Van Herk in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, in the no. 1 match, while Ma got the Sugar Bears another point with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Villar in the no. 3 match. It wouldn't be enough though, as the Warhawks got a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win from Horakova over Xiang in the no. 2 match, and Mylonas took down Shimoguchi 6-1, 6-3 in the no. 4 match. Popescu scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over Manataweewat in the no. 5 match, and Stanciu secured the win with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win over Van Heerden in the no. 6 match.
Central Arkansas continues its home-stand with a pair of matches next weekend. UCA will host Missouri State at 1:00 PM on Friday, before opening Southland Conference play on Sunday afternoon against McNeese State.
